Who we are
We are the Greek Community School of Newcastle CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). A Registered Charity in England and Wales Registration no: 1193711.
Our School is a collective effort of parents, teachers, and children who live in the North East of England.
We are an independent group of people who share a common will and aim to provide our children, who are living and growing up in the North East of England, a fundamental education in the Greek Language, Culture and Civilisation.
The school's History
The School was established by a small group of families who recognised the importance of a dedicated provision that facilitates their children’s learning of the Greek language and culture.
It all started with 9 children in a side-room of a church. We have, since then, evolved and are ever-growing! We currently have 50 children and we operate from the state-of-the-art facility, St Mary’s Catholic School.
Our Mission
The Greek Community School exists in order to promote the Greek language, culture, history, and traditions to children and adults from within the community, as well as, the wider community of the North East.
Our Objectives
To prepare our pupils to gain qualifications recognised by the Greek and English education systems: GCSE Greek, A-Level Greek, Certification of Attainment in Greek – KLIK.
To provide pupils with access to the rich Greek cultural, and historic heritage.
To give students the skills they need, to achieve to communicate in Greek with close and distant relatives or friends back in Greece.
To give students the opportunity to experience first hand and to explore the rich Greek literature, Greek music, songs, traditions, and customs, and through these live a fuller and more enriched life.
